World Peace Statue - Grandcamp France

If you ever make it to the battlezones of France in Normandy: Caen or St. Lo, Arromanches-les-Bains, the US Cemetery, the museums commemorating D-Day, and the rest, you may just drive-by one of the all-time most beautiful sculptures... by sculpteur Yao Yuan. I didn't realize it at the time, but that sculpture had been on site for less than 4 months, when I took this photo in September 2004, accompanied by my roaming brother. It was constructed in China, by commission of the Department of Normandy's government. It weighs 16 tons, and took the collaboration of over 200 workers!

The kind of statue that makes John Lennon's words come into your head:
"Imagine all the people..."
